In commemoration of the American Bankers Association’s Teach Children to Save Day on April 11, 2014, Banking on Our Future- Washington DC (BOOF DC) partnered with the members of the Metro Washington Bankers Group (MWBG) to bring financial awareness to the students of Cesar Chavez Public Charter School- Parkside Campus.
This special partnership brought together 22 volunteers representing: BB&T, Bank of Georgetown, Capital One Bank, City First Bank, HSBC, Industrial Bank, M&T Bank, Sun Trust Bank, TD Bank and Wells Fargo to provide financial education to the students of Cesar Chavez Public Charter School – Parkside Campus. For many of the 80 senior class students, this was the first time information about personal money management has been shared with them in depth.
Students were exposed to the basics of banking, budgeting, saving and investing. Special emphasis was placed on student loans and credit, as a majority of the students are headed to college in the fall.
Cesar Chavez Public Charter Schools for Public Policy CEO & Founder, Irasema Salcido and Principal Dwan Jordon thanked all volunteers for engaging the students and sharing such important information. BOOF DC would especially like to thank Ms. Renee John for her assistance and MWBG for their partnership.
